Head of Learning Support / SENCO

Secondary (years 7-15) / Wharekura, Middle Leadership, Special Education Needs Coordinator (SENCO)

We seek a passionate, energetic, resilient and collaborative professional, capable of leading change and developing relational trust to ensure the best possible outcomes for all of our students.

The successful candidate will be required to fulfil the SENCO role across the school, supporting our students with additional needs, both in the mainstream setting and the special eduction unit.

This is an exciting and challenging role, as we will be building a purpose-built learning support area over the next few years and the the successful candidate will lead this transition.

We seek a head of learning support who:

  • can manage and inspire a large team of teacher aides
  • can lead an experienced team of teachers in the SEU
  • can create close connections to the community
  • has strong administration and pastoral skills
  • has strength in behavioural management
  • has an understanding of students with cognitive disabilities
  • has knowledge of writing IEPs and goal setting
  • has the ability to work within a close team
  • has knowledge of the NZQA/SAC process

Transition Teacher - Special Education Unit

Full-time, Permanent

The Special Education Unit at Kaipara College is seeking a full time teacher to join their experienced teaching team. The role is for a teacher of students with additional needs.

We require a teacher who has:

  • Responsibility for setting up, and administering, a course based around Transition
  • Close connections to the community or ability to create these connections
  • Strong administration and pastoral skills
  • Strength in behavioural management
  • An understanding of students with cognitive disabilities
  • An understanding of the importance of the pastoral responsibility, and is able to build a close relationship with families
  • Knowledge of writing IEPs and goal setting
  • The ability to work within a close team

Technology Teacher - Special Education Unit

Part-time, Permanent, FTTE up to 0.4

Secondary (Years 7-15) / Wharekura, Certificated Teacher

Technology

The special education unit at the college seeks a part-time teacher to join their experienced teaching team.  The role is for a teacher of students with additional needs.

The position is for 2 days per week, with meeting times to be negotiated.

We require a teacher who has:

  • Strong administration and pastoral skills
  • Strength in behavioural management
  • An understanding of students with cognitive disabilities
  • An understanding of the importance of the pastoral responsibility, involvement with IEP and goal setting
  • The ability to work within a close team
  • A passion for the arts and technology would be an advantage, but not a necessity.

You will be joining a passionate and professional whānau team who strive to empower our students to be successful members of their school and wider community.

Teacher Aide - fixed term

We require a teacher aide to work in our Special Education Unit, supporting students with special educational needs.

The role involves working with students to support their learning in the classroom environment. The successful applicant will have an understanding of students with special needs and have sufficient skills to deal with behavioural issues that arise from cognitive disabilities.

The pay is negotiable to reflect the skills and experience required. This is a fixed term contract, school hours but number of hours are negotiable within that.
